Matias al Margen is an Argentine illustrator from Buenos Aires. He refers to his drawings as “children of boredom, nonconformity or anger”. His illustrations are bleak portraits of our society that provide a probing depiction of humanity today. Exploring themes such as consumerism, technology, media and relationships, Margen’s illustrations carry a black humor.
Matias claims that his drawings are not meant to please the public. In fact, it seems his works were almost made to shock and shake people out of some kind of stupor, which Margen himself confirms saying they were born to “annoy because they show the imperfect.”
Matias also considers his work the “garbage of the subconscious”. Although he believes his illustrations are “born on the margins, almost without intention”, they have proven to have a unique knack of describing the human condition, as proven by the publicity they have garnered so far.
