Rape of Proserpina (1621-1622) By Gian Lorenzo Bernini

The Rape of Proserpina (Italian: Ratto di Proserpina) is a large Baroque marble sculptural group by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini, executed between 1621 and 1622. Bernini was only twenty-three years old at its completion. It depicts the Abduction of Proserpina, where Proserpina is seized and taken to the underworld by the god Pluto.

Elegant design! Two giant hands seem to lift the golden pedestrian bridge in Vietnam

Known as the Golden Bridge, it stands 1,400m above sea level above the Ba Na hills, offering majestic views of the surrounding countryside. The gold-colored walkway is lined with purple Lobelia Chrysanthemums and extends for almost 150 metres, curving around in an elegant design. But it is the sculpted hands that give it the true wow factor. The design for the bridge came from a company called TA Landscape Architecture, and while the hands look like they are carved from stone, they are actually not. “We designed the skeleton of the hands and covered them with steel meshes,” a representative of the company told Bored Panda. “Then we finished with fiberglass and added the theming on it. The entire construction of the bridge took about a year.”

Vietnam has experienced a tourism boom as more and more people discover the beauty of this remarkable country, the structure is part of a $2 billion investment to bring even more than the 1.5 million visitors the area receives annually. Would you like to visit this amazing bridge? Scroll down below to check it out, and let us know what you think!

Balancing the grace of the natural world between the real and the imagined by Wendi Schneider

Wendi Schneider is a Denver-based visual artist whose painterly photographs illuminate a deep reverence for the natural world. Born in Memphis, she holds an AA in Art History from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and a BA in Painting from Newcomb/Tulane in New Orleans. Her photographs are inspired by the lush Southern landscape and a background in painting and art history. She turned to photography in the early ‘80s to create references for paintings. Missing the sensuality of oils, she began layering glazes on her photographs to create a more personal interpretation. After she photographed, designed and produced the award-winning re-creation of the 1901 Picayune’s Creole Cook Book for The Times-Picayune, she moved to New York, where she photographed nearly 100 book covers and was a major contributor to the original Victoria Magazine. She moved to Denver in 1994, and after several decades of photography, design and art direction for clients, she recently returned to fine art photography. She is the recipient of multiple awards and her works have been exhibited throughout the world.

In order to achieve her distinctive photographic style, she developed various original techniques, which involve precious metals, hand painting and Polaroid film.

States of Grace Encaustic
wendi-schneider-daybreak-800

In State of Grace Encaustic Wendy illuminates beauty amidst the chaos. She is calmed by the simplicity of a graceful line and the stillness of the suspended moment and compelled to share an impression of the serenity she finds here. She captures the ephemeral movement of light on organic forms, to preserve that mystical moment that stills time for her. Photographing intuitively - what she feels, as much as what she sees - and informed by a background in painting and art history, I portray a personal interpretation by layering the images digitally with color and texture to find balance between the real and the imagined.

Hand-Painted Photographs

wendi-schneider-odalisque-with-cat-hand-painted

Most of her hand-painted photographs date from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s. Her hand-coloring technique was developed from a background in oil painting and was influenced by techniques of old masters. Delicate layers of oil paint are painstakingly applied to each archival fiber print to achieve rich and subtle hues. This technique differs from traditional hand-tinting, which involves applying and then removing color to leave a 'tint" of color.

These images were photographed on slide film, copied to Polaroid instant film, then peeled apart before fully developed and printed on damp archival watercolor paper. Some of these prints were then enhanced with watercolors or colored pencils.

States of Grace

In States of Grace, she illuminates beauty amidst the chaos. She captures the ephemeral movement of light on organic forms, to preserve that mystical moment that stills time. White gold, silver or 24k gold leaf is applied behind the image, creating a silken luminosity on the print's surface. Throughout history, civilizations have prized the use of precious metals for their beauty and sanctity. The leafing process suffuses the intrinsic value of the treasured subjects with the implied spirituality of the gold. The perception of luminosity varies as the viewer’s position and ambient light change.

Artworks made using cut wood, acrylic paing and color stain by Lior Vaturi

Lior Vaturi is an Israeli-born artist who works in New York City.

fb-lion

His current work depicts a range of subject matters, drawing inspiration both from nineteenth century reprographic technique and modern day digital expression. Using both halftone and pixel grids, combined with cut wood, acrylic paint and color stain, surfaces start to take shape, resulting in an optical illusion effect that can be experienced up close and from a distance.

lion-wood1

Lior's background and experience in the graphic and design industry serves as foundation for this shift in his creative practice, where, through almost meditative like process, he explores a more tactile and tangible interpretation of a visual expression.

The Inner Voice of Eirini Lachana

Greek photographer Eirini Lachana’s body of work is entitled “Inner Voice”. Eirini experiences the Inner Voice as a sixth sense that reveals the ultimate source of things within her. Guided by the Inner Voice she photographs everyday life, her home, herself and her dear ones.

fb-eirini

Her photographs either show clear imprints of her life or intimate scenes that are open to innumerable interpretations for the viewer to decipher her world. As a consequence she prefers to consider her photographs a source of mystery, yet fully accessible as artistic objects. For this reason, she also prefers not to focus the attention on the technical details of her photographic process. Eirini believes that her photos should be perceived as self-reliant entities that can be admired merely for the strength and power of their content.

The Human Race 3 (Before They Pass Away) by Jimmy Nelson

Jimmy’s dream has always been to create awareness about our world’s indigenous cultures through his photography. He has wanted to create a visual document that shows us and future generations the beauty of how they live. Like Edward Sheriff Curtis, the famous American ethnologist and photographer, who documented the North American Indians at the beginning of last century, he wanted to create carefully orchestrated portraits of these amazing peoples, at their absolute proudest.

The meaning of love through the exceptional Sketches of Pascal Champion Art

Van Gogh after his ‘impossible love affair’ with the Italian Agostina Segatori in Paris, finally decided to accept that he wasn’t destined to find his true love. He settled for paying for it.

Love is not easy to find, and not easy to keep. Love sometimes comes without thinking, maybe was always there but you never see it. No matter how love appears in your life, when it is finally there, it is the best feeling someone can experience. Something very close to "Magic".

Tenderness, fondness, predilection, warmth, passion, adoration. Love mean a deep and enduring emotional regard for someone special in your life.

This is what love looks like through the exceptional illustrations of Pascal Champion Art

Using body parts to chase the ligh by Daphne

Daphne, a 24 years old, is an artist from Switzerland. Having been a lover of arts from a very young age, her journey led her to the use a diverse mediums, but none of them had what photography has to offer: an interactive part.

fb-Daphne

For Daphne it is about the engagement with others and the creative process is what she lives for. Seldom one of her pictures makes it into its printed form, for in her eyes the emotions evoked while producing the piece of work are no longer the same.

Double Eyes oil Paintings Potraits by Alex Garant

Internationally renown as the Queen of Double Eyes, Alex Garant studied visual arts at Notre-Dame–De-Foy College just outside Quebec City. She decided to truly commit to her passion for Arts after suffering from a heart attack in 2012, changing forever how she would see the world.

fb-alex

As a pioneer of Contemporary Figurative Op Art, her oil paintings offer a graphic quality combined with traditional portrait techniques. Garant establishes herself as one of the leader of analog Glitch Art by using patterns, duplication of elements,  symmetry and image superposition as key elements of her imagery.  Alex Garant's paintings are certainly conversation pieces as they are meant to engage the observers into an image investigation process and hopefully enlist their senses differently while doing so.

The power of a different perspective by John Dykstra

I believe in the power of perspective. In my work, I use practical effects to touch on how our perspective on life affects our perception, influencing the lives we lead. My goal is to create photographs that dabble between abstract truths and concrete reality. By drawing connections between illusions of realism and the subjectivity of human experience, my work lingers between daylight and daydream.

fb-john

Avoiding heavy post-processing techniques, I construct my photographs through carefully constructed sets. I incorporate drawing, painting, and stage design into my photography to introduce tricky visuals into my photographs. Owing to the flatness of the photograph, along with its accuracy in capturing the likeness of reality, I am able to hide the trick to my illusions within plain view.

David by Michelangelo

David is one of Michelangelo’s most-recognizable works, and has become one of the most recognizable statues in the entire world of art.  Standing 13’5″ tall, the double life-sized David is depicted patiently waiting for battle, prepped with slingshot in one hand and stone in the other.  The twentysomething-Michelangelo carved the David after he had already carved the Pieta in Rome in the late 1490s and returned to Florence in 1501.

fb-david-m

Knowledge of his talent as a sculptor, therefore, was growing, and his career was accelerating when he was commissioned to carve the biblical David for the outside of the Florence Cathedral.  Because the statue was intended to be placed in a high location on the church, it had to be large enough to be seen from below.  Today, it resides not outside the cathedral, but inside the comfortable confines of the Accademia Museum in Florence.

The David we are presented with here is a nude man with a very muscular physique.  His veins are visible in his arms and hands as he clutches the stones with one hand and the slingshot in the other.  His hands and his head appear to be disproportionally large for his body, possibly because they were deemed more visually important for viewers who would see the statue high up on the exterior of the cathedral.  Also, his left leg, which straddles the rocky base upon which he stands, appears a big too long for his body.  It accentuates the line of this leg as it forms an essential component in David’s contrapposto stance.  Like the ancient Hellenistic and Roman sculptures who were masters at convincingly depicting the human anatomy, Michelangelo has depicted David so that his body responds to the stance he is in.  David’s weight has been placed on his right leg while his left leg is at rest.  Because of this, his hips have shifted with one side being higher than the other.  In turn, this has caused David’s spine and midsection to curve slightly, and his right shoulder drops slightly below his left one.

Giant animals and tiny humans are a common thread in some of his recent photo-manipulations. The might and awe of the animal kingdom has always been an inspiration for Eben and he likes to think we all have our spirit animals that challenge, guide and protect us in a world that seems to be diving deeper into chaos.

Dancers: interpreting the world through subtle but riveting movements by Omar Z, Robles

Omar Z Robles is a photographer based in NYC. His interest in story telling began with one man: Marcel Marceau. The legendary mime actor taught him how to interpret the world through subtle but riveting movements. Those movements that he acquired as a student in Paris, he employs today in his photo series of ballet dancers.

In New York City, he transformed the aesthetic of his street photography by substituting the New Yorker with the New York dancer. Robles directed the dancers to tell stories with their bodies as he had learned from Marceau. The results were an army of miniature stories as told by the gentle flow of the dancers’ bodies.

"The Same", an outstanding project by Martin Neuhof

Martin Neuhof is a photographer from Leipzig. He loves to break boundaries and points of view. Freedom is a term that shapes all his actions and his work.

26840768_1964605033568020_7186262650462721868_o

The Same is an outstanding project that shows a true balance. Martin says "at a time when the world is out of balance, one has to commit oneself to one's own humanistic values. We are all humans on this island called Earth and we have to get along"

26173234_1958403407521516_5599107942420892699_o

Martin is firmly convinced that this is achieved with love rather than hate. Let us emphasize the similarities and accept the differences!.
