Tran Nguyen is an award-winning illustrator and fine artist known for her whimsical and surreal paintings of women and their melancholic landscapes. Born in Can Tho, Vietnam, she currently resides in Georgia, where she creates illustrations for magazines, books, wine and beer packaging, animation, advertising and mural work. Her paintings are created with a soft, delicate quality using colored pencil and acrylic on paper. They possess an air of fantasy and surrealism that is both otherworldly yet familiar. Growing up in a small house with two, and then three, brothers meant that solitude wasn't easy to come by for Nguyen, the lone girl. She spent her childhood playing Final Fantasy on PlayStation and watching Hayao Miyazaki movies. She was especially transfixed by the visuals of anime like Bubblegum Crisis and Neon Genesis Evangelion. When she was five years old, her parents gave her a small painting kit which she used to sketch scenes from her favorite anime.

By the time she entered her junior year in high school, studying art seemed like the most natural path. “I didn’t really have a backup plan. I just knew that’s what I wanted to do,” she says. “My parents brought me over here to pursue what I wanted to pursue. Why give that up?” Her passion for art led her to pursue a career in illustration and she has since become one of the most sought-after artists in her field, earning numerous awards and accolades for her work.

Tran Nguyen's paintings are not only beautiful, but they also tell a story of her past, her journey and her experiences. Her illustrations are a reflection of her own life and the world around her.
