DANCERS AMONG US
New York portrait photographer Jordan Matter has been widely acclaimed for his photographs of dancers in the streets of America. His series “Dancers Among Us” displays professional dancers in street clothes going around routine actions with a twist: they defy gravity, contort their bodies and pose with passion and grace in ways most people can’t. In his words, he decided to “use dancers to create a world as if seen through the eyes of a child, showing the beauty and fantasy in everyday moments.”
Matter explores the expressiveness of dance in two other series. “Dancers After Dark” captures dancers posing nude at night in public places and “Tiny Dancers Among Us” includes dancers aged 16 and younger.
