Surreal and emotional portraits
Iranian painter Afarin Sajedi, dives into the depth of the human soul with her emotional portraits. While the central characters in most of her work are women, what attracts her are human concerns and questions, not any specific geographic location or gender. Realistic portraits entangled with surprising objects and animals, futuristic looks, and faces pierced by forks and scissors converge in Sajedi’s creative universe. She describes her work as “a little bit science fiction, a little bit realism.”
Her paintings offer a glimpse into the hidden chaos inside all of us. Inspired by closed-ups in cinematography, she has the ability to connect the audience to the characters’ inner states and emotions. Powerful feelings are generated and transmitted through gazes, symbolism and an aggressive color palette.
Sajedi’s work is stunning. Being moved by it is just unavoidable.
